PETITION FOR HONG KONG STUDENTS’ STRIKE (JUNE 12) AGAINST EXTRADITION LAW
We are a group of Hong Kong students. To protest against the extradition law, we are calling for students’ strikes. Students from all over Hong Kong are welcomed to join.
On June 9 2019, over a million Hong Kong marchers voiced out our concerns peacefully on a global scale. The Hong Kong government, however, turned a blind eye and even released a declaration that the second reading of the Extradition Law is to be resumed on June 12.
On the evening of June 9, the police used unnecessary forces against armless demonstrators. We saw in person that many young people of our age were treated with violence. Reporters were also hollered at and evicted forcefully. There was no escape for protesters as the police closed in.
We find the government’s response extremely unsatisfactory. The government should respect the freedom of assembly, press and speech. If the government continues to ignore the public opinion, this will only lead to more outrage and social division.
As students, we believe that the younger generations should shoulder the responsibility of questioning about Hong Kong’s prospect. Students movements should not just happen at the tertiary level. In the times of commotion and deep-seated anxiety, it is our obligation to take an active part in social affairs. Secondary school students should also be independent thinkers who learn outside the classroom through democratic movements.
We hope to see students from different schools to gather our strength to safeguard Hong Kong’s future. The students’ strike aims to encourage further actions amongst different groups and industries of Hong Kong. It is time for the government to take a step back in accordance to the public opinion: retract the evil extradition law.
We shall not let Hong Kong, our home, fall.

*During the students’ strike, the organisers will station at the Government Headquarter and Legislative Council. There will be alternative education study groups, clean-up and environmental-awareness teams. We would also hold reading groups with the focus on the Extradition Law. Teachers and students from all over Hong Kong are welcomed to join.
We will not count petitioners who choose to remain anonymous.
To protect students, we would only publish students’ names and their year of study.
Their school names will only be for data collection purposes.
Deadline: 12 am on June 12
