Unjust Deportation of Yuli Riswati – the Indonesian migrant domestic worker and writer in Hong Kong
Condemn HK government for political suppression against migrants who write and speak on the HK protest
Farewell message from Yuli on the plane
Yuli Riswati is now on the plane CX779 from Hong Kong to Surabaya. She has made a farewell call to Ms. Fish Ip, her friend and the regional coordinator of International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) while she is on the plane. Here is her farewell message for all her friends, supporters and media friends in Hong Kong and abroad.
“This morning I was being called by the Immigration officer, again they cheated me saying that they called up my lawyer but claimed that the lawyer did not pick up the call which is untrue.
I requested for a copy of the statement I’ve made last Friday (the statement that Yuli was being forced to withdraw her visa extension application). I asked for the copy many times already. Again, the immigration officer rejected me to have the copy. They claimed that the statement was already sent to Wan Chai Immigration office.
The officer, before we left (the Castle Peak Bay Immigration Centre, CIC) at 10am, the officer asked me to write a statement again. The asked me to write: “I am satisfied with the arrangement to send me home. I like the way that the Immigration handled my case.” I am surprised and I am actually extremely upset of the way that Immigration treated me and deported me. I declined to write such a fake statement. And the officer told me, “if you don’t write, then you cannot go back to Indonesia.”
So at the end I just wrote “I know that I will go back to Indonesia.”
(how were you being treated these two days?) They treat me specially well today, as if they worry something.
I would like to thank you all of your support to me. I feel very touched by your support action. I want to tell what had happened to me, and what is the situation at the CIC. Many friends who are still detained there at CIC are suffering – the condition is inhumane and unjust. I hope people in Hong Kong can concern about their situation. I hope they will suffer no more. Please help my friends at the CIC.
The immigration officer did not tell me whether I will be banned to enter Hong Kong again in the future. I will ask my friends to pack my luggage which are still at my employer’s home, to send to my Indonesian home.
Thank you all my supporters and friends in Hong Kong.”
The Hong Kong friends, supporters and media have tried to see her off from the airport and say farewell. However, the Immigration Department has rejected the request.
Yuli’s Hong Kong friends and supporters will have the following actions in the future and more to be discussed and decided:
1) We will continue to question the way that immigration treated Yuli. Until now, no valid and just answers are given to the public.
2) We will ensure Yuli safety and welfare for her arrivals in Indonesia : we’ve informed Indonesian media and organizations to monitor and help
3) We will fundraise for Yuli living: she has a son to take care of
4) We will follow up the inhuman situation in CIC
The Immigration Department of Hong Kong owes Yuli justice. We are upset and angry on what the Immigration Department did against her will and justice, suppressing her freedom of speech and her right to help her Indonesian workers in Hong Kong.
